Jamo
brings Danish design and energy savings
to MSI Smart Home
As part of their year-long seventy-fifth anniversary
celebration, the Museum of Science and Industry in
Chicago has built an entire eco-friendly home on their
grounds. The exhibit, Smart Home: Green + Wired,
represents the first time any museum has erected a
full-sized, fully-functional home. Because of their
efficiency and great Danish design, Jamo speakers were
chosen to be part of a whole-house audio solution for
this unique project.
The contemporary modular home was conceived by Michelle
Kaufmann Designs of Oakland, California and built by All
American Homes of Elkhart, Indiana. It was created to
highlight new "green" technologies and demonstrate
simple earth-friendly choices that people can make in
their everyday lives. In addition to innovations such as
systems to recycle rainwater runoff for irrigation,
roofs and countertops made from recycled bottles, the
home also features "smart" technologies that automate
many of the 2,500 square-foot home's controls.
Jamo in-wall and in-ceiling speakers, along with Concert
series floorstanders, center channel and subwoofers were
selected for placement throughout the home and as part
of the home theater system. Consultant Rick Simpson of
3G Applied Technologies, who handled the installation
noted: "We particularly liked the speakers we put in the
kitchen-and so does everyone else! I'm also very fond of
the center channel and would love to have it in my own
home."
According to Jamo marketing manager Tamara Douce, Jamo
products were well suited to the overall theme of energy
conservation: "In addition to their Danish design and
great sound, Jamo engineers are committed to using green
technologies in our manufacturing and in our speakers.
Everything from seeking new ways to be energy-efficient
to using recyclables where possible to reducing
packaging-it's all part of an ongoing strategy to be as
earth-friendly as possible." In addition, Jamo products
meet the most rigorous European standards for reduced-or
eliminated-levels of lead and other potentially
hazardous materials.
Tamara added, "The Smart Home is a great opportunity for
Jamo to demonstrate not only the strong eye and ear
appeal of its products, but also to highlight the fact
that they are energy-efficient and environmentally
sound."
The Smart Home: Green + Wired exhibit at the Museum of
Science and Industry is scheduled to run through January
4, 2009. It is recommended for students from grades 4-12
and for adults.
